I’ve been mono ocular…see only through one eye…. since I was 12 years old following a very traumatic incident.
That incident knocked me unconscious, landed me in the hospital for a few weeks and delayed my high schools start date. It also gave me a very ugly scar on my face and strabismus in the injured eye.
One of my biggest fears these days is the feeling of impending doom that I will lose my sight!
There are days when my sight is really bad…. everything is blurry and I must carry on. My fear is compounded by the fact that my many doctor’s visits have given me no answer and no real solution.
Still, I carry on…… hoping and praying.
We all suffer from fear at one time or the other….
We are humans!
I heard a story about the U.S. president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was stricken with polio and had this gripping fear of being trapped in a burning building because he was in a wheelchair. Yet he accomplished great things and gave us the famous quote… the only thing to fear is fear itself.
Fear is a vital response to physical and emotional danger. It helps us protect ourselves from legitimate threats.
Most often though, we fear situations that are far from life-threatening and we hang back because we don’t want to look foolish, be embarrassed, not know what to do, or feel like a novice.
Once you venture out of your comfort zones, negative thoughts will, regrettably, rise to the surface and try to seduce you into doing nothing.
Life can become extremely overwhelming, but it’s your job to mitigate the obstacles it throws your way.
Because of fear and doubt, many of us never follow our dreams, never do the things we want to do, and never venture far from where we are right now.
Sometimes we play the victim and hold ourselves back from a life of betterment.
Some degree of fear will always be there but continue to stretch yourself and move forward with your life.
Rather than making fear an obstacle, we must learn to work through it to accomplish our goals and make our dreams come true.
Don’t allow your inner monologue to drag you down.
Examine your fear, stop making excuses then, take action!!
“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” – Dale Carnegie
Until next time…..
